When switching financial management software, reporting can be a huge concern. Will my new solution provide the same reports that I currently use? What reports do I actually need from my data? Scott and James break down the process in this week’s video:

Report Evaluation Process

Your first step in terms of reporting should be identifying why you need each report that you pull, and what it’s used for. If you pull reports out of habit, or only need one number or item from them, you can actually create a dashboard item for the metric in Sage Intacct and eliminate that report all together. Other reports are required for compliance or user distribution, so ensuring proper data migration necessary to pull them is a priority.

Once you know what necessary data you’ll need to pull, you can determine whether you need to create new ones for operational metrics to supplement the financial ones. You can also pull these reports to validate the data migration – if you have all the information in the correct format to run your reports, you will know that you’ve got what you need to transfer over.

Leveraging a Tech Partner

It might be tempting to attempt to make the switch on your own, but having a partner who has already successfully helped others go through the transition can be used to your benefit. A good partner will leverage their own expertise, while recognizing steps that you can take (like organizing data for migration) to expedite the transition. They will also be able to help you avoid common mistakes and pitfalls that others have run into so your workflow faces minimal interruption and cultural impact goes smoothly.
